Artificial turf and hardscaping in Holladay, Utah

Holladay has the best tree canopy in the valley and the shadiest lawns to go with it. Grass under a mature tree loses that fight every year — it thins, it gets walked through, and it turns to mud each spring. That is the single most common reason people here call us.

What is different about Holladay yards

Deep shade is where turf genuinely outperforms grass

Under an established canopy, natural grass cannot get the light it needs and never fills in. Turf holds identical colour and density in full shade, which makes it one of the few landscape products that is straightforwardly better than the thing it replaces in that exact condition.

The trees set the layout, not the other way round

Mature trees have shallow root plates spreading well past the canopy. We would rather move a patio edge or reduce excavation depth in a root zone than cut through roots — on these lots the tree is worth considerably more than the extra few square feet.

Old irrigation, no as-built

Systems here have been extended and patched for decades and almost never match any drawing. We locate and cap properly under turf areas rather than cutting and abandoning lines, and rebalance whatever still needs to feed beds.

Larger lots mean zones, not wall-to-wall

On a big Holladay lot, turfing everything is rarely the right spend. Turf where the yard is used, hardscape where the furniture goes, and beds or shade planting for the rest gets a better result for less money.

Holladay questions

Will turf look right under my trees?

Yes, and it is one of the genuine advantages. It holds the same colour and density in deep shade that it does in full sun, which is exactly where grass struggles most on these lots.

Will excavating hurt a mature tree?

It can, which is why we plan around root zones. Where a tree is close we adjust layout or depth rather than cutting roots, and we will tell you if what you want is not worth the risk to the tree.
