Artificial turf and hardscaping in Park City, Utah
Park City is the hardest place we build and the easiest case to make. At this elevation a lawn gets a short, grudging season, goes dormant early, and spends half the year under snow. Turf holds its colour through all of it, which is why so much of our mountain work is replacing grass that was never going to win.

What is different about Park City yards
The season is too short for grass to earn its keep
Between the last frost in spring and the first in autumn there is not much room, and a lawn spends a good part of that window recovering rather than looking good. Turf is green the day the snow clears, which at this elevation is worth more than it is down in the valley.
Snow has to go somewhere
Plowed and shovelled snow gets piled, and wherever it gets piled is under a load for months and soaking wet every thaw. We plan snow storage before we plan the patio, because a paver surface used as a snow dump without the base to match is a surface that moves.
Freeze-thaw here is not the valley version
Mountain lots cycle above and below freezing far more often, and each cycle works on anything holding water. Base depth and drainage that would be adequate in Orem are not automatically adequate here, and we scope them differently.
Design review before anything else
Promontory, Glenwild and most of the gated communities run architectural review with real teeth, and materials and colours get approved before work starts. We will put together the scope and product list you need for submittal, but budget time for it — approval is rarely quick.
Nobody is watering a second home
A lot of these properties sit empty for stretches. A lawn that depends on someone noticing it is dry is a lawn that browns out between visits. Turf removes that dependency entirely, which is usually the argument that lands.

Does artificial turf work at Park City elevation?
Better than grass does. UV is stronger up here, so turf choice and warranty matter more than they do in the valley, but the surface itself is unaffected by the short season and holds colour through the months a lawn spends dormant.
What happens under all that snow?
Nothing. Snow sits on it and melts through the base the same way it does on any properly built turf yard. The thing to plan for is where plowed snow gets piled, since that is a load and a drainage question rather than a turf question.
Can you work with our HOA design guidelines?
Yes. We provide the scope, materials and dimensions for your submittal. Filing it and getting approval is between you and the review board, and in most of the gated communities it is worth starting well before you want work to begin.
